Despite the fact that the Cold War saw little fighting, it generated a lot of fear, tension and pressure in society. There was always the threat of Soviet bombing and attacks along with the fear of communism, all which were palpable. There were protests about drafts and the Vietnam War. Also, the Space Race lead to the creation of NASA and an increase in interest in science. The public were the ones most affected by the war because they had to live it everyday.
